Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Nanotechnology is science, engineering, and technology for manipulation of matter on subnano- and nano-scale. Nanotechnology is one of the most important technologies which has a great potential for creation of new materials and devices with a vast range of applications, such as in electronics, energy production, biology and medicine, and consumer products.

The ˇ°Department of Material Science and Engineeringˇ± at the Kangwon National University (KNU) was established in 1979 to ensure that KNU achieves excellence in education and research in the field of material science and engineering. In 2013 the department name changed to the ˇ°Department of Nano Applied Engineeringˇ±. The change of department name reflects the increasing public awareness on advanced materials and nano-technology. 8 faculty members are currently reading the cutting-edge technologies covering especially NT (nano-technology), ET (energy technology), and BT (bio-technology) in the department. The goal of the departmental is to cultivate the students to be talented engineers and researchers who can be differentiated by the descent knowledge and ability in advanced novel materials and nano-technology.
